Mary Claire Stewart
My name is Mary Claire. Yes, I have two names, and I go by both of them. Or MC.
I'm an Atlanta-based photographer and videographer, but I think of myself as more of a visual storyteller. I love telling compelling stories that touch the deepest corners of the human heart. Using a camera to capture what I encounter in life consistently opens my eyes to really see things, even below the surface of what's obvious. I'm passionate about using my camera to unveil beauty in unlikely places, and to give a voice to those who are silenced. The stories that we tell create and influence our culture, so I'm committed to using my skills and knowledge to communicate a narrative that will make the world a better place for all of us to live.
My faith significantly impacts my work, because it shapes the way I see the world. I believe that every human being is created in the image of God, and therefore has intrinsic worth, dignity, and glory. I hope to inspire a little bit of hope in the hearts of those who see my work. I hope to stir a longing for the world which we were created for, a world without suffering and death and misfortune, a world where everyone can thrive.
I've always been an artist. I had natural talent from a young age, and was constantly drawing, painting, and creating things with my hands. I always said I was going to be an artist when I grew up. As I got a little older, I was enrolled in countless fine art classes, and developed an appreciation for different styles, techniques, and eras of art history. When I was about 17, I developed an interest in photography, and found it to simply be another way to paint: with light, instead of pigments. I jumped headlong into photography, and haven't put the camera down since. I'm mostly self-taught, building on my fine art education with the technical skills required to master the complexity of professional cameras. I did freelance work throughout my four years of college, and then started my business full-time after graduating with a degree in Visual Communication.
I still love to paint every now and then. I have a pretty introverted personality, so I find time spent alone very life-giving. I value meaningful connections with other people and love deep conversations and shared experiences. I try to spend as much of my free time outside as I can, hiking and exploring or going for a run. I love to travel, and have had some rich experiences visiting new cities and countries. When I'm not traveling, I reside in Atlanta, Georgia, where I have a wonderful community of family and friends. I'm a shameless cat person, and lover of hot tea and pretty espresso lattes (decaf, with almond milk).
